1. Introduction

Network Tools is a collection of utilities for probing, debugging and testing networks using your phone. Privacy and data minimization are the foundational design principles of this application. This policy explains what data is processed, why, and what rights you have.

This policy applies to the Network Tools Android application only. It does not cover data collected by Google, Android, or any third-party systems you interact with through the app.

2. Who Is Responsible for Your Data

Data controller: The developer of Network Tools, contactable through the app's Google Play listing.

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the developer is the data controller under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and equivalent national laws.

3. Data We Do Not Collect

Network Tools collects no personally identifiable information on your device. Specifically, the app does not:

4. Data Processed to Operate the App

Android Permissions

The app requests only the permissions strictly necessary for its functionality:

PermissionPurpose
INTERNETRequired to perform network operations and use probing tools
FOREGROUND_SERVICEAllows the app to run foreground services for background network operations
FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNCDeclares the foreground service type used for data synchronization tasks
ACCESS_WIFI_STATERead current Wi-Fi connection details
CHANGE_WIFI_STATEModify Wi-Fi connection settings within the app
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATIONRequired by Android to read Wi-Fi network names (SSID); used on-device only, never transmitted
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATERead general network connectivity status

All permission-derived data is used on-device only and is not transmitted to any server by the app, except as described below.

External Request — My IP Screen

When you open the My IP screen, the app makes a single HTTP request to:

This server logs standard web access data for each request:

Legal basis (GDPR Art. 6): Processing of server log data is based on legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — specifically, the operational necessity of delivering the requested service and protecting server integrity.

5. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding any personal data we process:

These rights apply under the GDPR (EEA/UK/Switzerland), the UK Data Protection Act 2018, Brazil's LGPD, Canada's PIPEDA, and similar privacy laws. California residents also have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know and the right to non-discrimination.

To exercise any right, contact the developer through the Google Play listing. Because the app does not require an account, you may need to provide your approximate IP address and the date of use so we can locate any relevant server log entries.

6. International Data Transfers

The server at ip.ekran.no is operated by the developer. If you are located in the EEA or UK, your IP address will briefly be processed on this server when you use the My IP screen. Where required, this transfer is covered by appropriate safeguards consistent with GDPR Chapter V.

7. Children's Privacy

Network Tools is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA where applicable). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal data, please contact us so it can be deleted.

8. Third-Party Data Processing

9. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date above and publish the revised policy on the app's Google Play listing. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

10. Contact and Complaints

For privacy questions or to exercise your rights, contact the developer through the Network Tools listing on Google Play.

If you are in the EEA or UK and are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (e.g. Datatilsynet in Norway, the ICO in the UK, or your national supervisory authority).
